The Laws of Blogging, No 1: The Law of SEO (search engine optimization)
Be the top of the Google search results through SEO
Only 10 search results are shown on the first page. According to SEO Basics by Knol, the sites on the second or third page have only 1% of the search traffic that the top ranked site gets. SEO is the process to place your site in the top ranked site and increase the volume and quality of traffic to your site, just like you do to increase potential customers in your offline store.
From a blogging beginner’s perspective, here are 5 basic ways to improve your SEO strategy.
1. Keyword: Know what your customers are looking for. Keywords are like your basic products you need to have in your store. Do not use generic terms. Be specific. Your customers won’t buy the same products from your store if your next stores have the same ones. Check daily estimations of searches for specific terms using the SEO Book Keyword research tool just like you estimate the market size of your business.
2. Name of the site: The name of your store tells what the store sells. You must include the right keywords in the name of your site for SEO. The title of my blog is “health communication” as a blog on health communication.
3. Title and contents of your post: Most search engines look at the body of text on your pages, as well as the page title. Include key words in the title and contents. It is easy for readers to know what your story is about and for Google search robots to pick up your story.
4. Interlinking: Link to others web sites, have others link to yours. However, all sites are not created equal. However, every link does not produce the same results. The link popularity is determined not just by the number of links but also by the quality of those links to your site.
