The US former-president George W. Bush should get some credit for his commitment to fighting AIDS in Africa.
According to an Opinion article written by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for for Scripps Howard News Service, President Bush’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) could have provided anti-viral treatments to two million HIV/AIDS sufferers in Africa. Before this plan was launched in 2003, barely 50,000 people in all of sub-Saharan Africa were receiving the drug.
We do not know what was the Bush’s TRUE intention of doing this humaritarian work. Nevertheless, it should be acknowledged that he has saved millions of lives. No wonder that Bush’s popularity will continue to grow in Africa where Mr. Bush heard a song of “America the Beautiful.”
